For Men Only

November is the most manly month of the year:

  • Our shotgun barrels are still warm from dove season.
  • Cooler temps mean that we can break out the flannel and the denim.
  • We get to build the first fire in the fireplace.
  • Football!
  • It’s the start of deer season.
  • We all get to look like Phil Robertson because it’s “No Shave November.”
  • Thanksgiving!

With all of these opportunities to practice our manliness, why are we failing to be men when it really counts?

Robin and I attended a luncheon last week for “orphan care leaders” in our community.  Although it sounds rather exclusive, the luncheon was open to everyone who is involved in or interested in orphan care in our community.  Among those present were CPS workers, representatives from various foster and adoption agencies, the Judge, ministry leaders, and foster and adoptive parents.  One of the observations that was made at the luncheon was the lack of men present.  In fact, men were outnumbered more than 3 to 1.

Gentlemen, it is past time for us to stand up, stop just pretending to be men, and fight.  Children right here in our community and beyond are being abused and neglected.  Children are going to bed hungry and waking up cold and alone.  Who is going to fight for them?

The children need champions who are willing to fight for them.

Gentlemen, this is your call to arms.  Gird yourselves for battle, and join me as we fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
