Are you a perfect parent?

Do you ever hear questions like that?  I know I do.  You see, Robin and I are preparing to lead a parenting class, and we are filled with doubts, fears, and questions.

Are you a perfect parent?

No, I am not a perfect parent.  In fact, I am far from it and have earned the “Parenting Fail” trophy on many occasions.  Time after time, our children and my wife hear me ask for forgiveness for my failures, and time after time I experience their gracious forgiveness, and they all love me despite myself.

Are your children perfect?

No, our children, much like their parents, are not perfect.  They are not robots.  They are not cookie cutter kiddos that fit into the mold of perfect children.  They’ve been known to make messes, throw fits, procrastinate, lie, and the list goes on and on.  In short, even though most of our children don’t share our biology, they share our propensity for messing up.  And we love them anyway.  In fact, we probably love them more.

Why are you leading a parenting class?

I could answer this question by stating that there are no perfect parents (which is true), and there are no perfect children (which is also true), so that makes me as qualified as anybody else (which is not so true).  And of course the old axiom, “Those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach,” keeps repeating in my head, but it’s not true either.

The real reason I’m teaching a parenting class is because the message contained in the Empowered to Connect Parent Training is one that other parents need to hear.  ETC training is Biblically based and backed up by science and decades of research.   The insights gained from ETC training have allowed me to understand myself and our children better.  ETC training has made me a better parent.

I invite you to join us for ETC Parent Training.

You should also know that I’m a sinner and a poor Christian example. My failures do not change the power or the perfection contained in the message of Jesus,  and my despite my failures I was still adopted as a child of the One True God and He loves me.  So even though I have doubts, fears, and questions, I share the message with others.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.” –Psalm 121 (NIV)
